CCOP has worked to promote the safety and security of the Castro neighborhood specifically, and the broader LGBTQIA2S+ community throughout the City and County of San Francisco and beyond by working closely with community members, neighborhood organizations, local governmental agencies, as well as with State level and Federal level organizations.
We affirm our commitment to continuing and bolstering this work in light of the 2024 Presidential Election results which have generated significant safety concerns for many within the LGBTQIA2S+ and allied community of San Francisco.
United SF
We are working to bring together numerous LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and organizations to help solidify a united approach to any safety or security threats, risks or incidents. This effort is in the preliminary stages, and we will update this page as the USF group meets.
Joint Statement of Solidarity
From: The Washington Post
A group of over 70 organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community have released a joint statement of solidarity following the victory of former president Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
The signees represent both state-level and national organizations. The letter, which was hopeful in tone, emphasized the long history of the LGBTQ+ community’s fight for its rights; the signatories pledged to continue that fight under a second Trump presidency.
“Ours is a long history of never backing down from a fight for our rights,” the letter reads. “United in our strength, during the most difficult of times, we have pushed forward and achieved significant progress across the decades.”
The letter continues, “For every member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and for those who support us: We’ve got this. We’ve got us. No matter who you are, where you live, or the outcome of yesterday’s election, today we are an LGBTQIA2S+ community united.”
“We know that so much more work lies ahead of us,” the letter reads. “Yet as an LGBTQIA2S+ movement, we will continue to work towards what we always have: a country where all LGBTQIA2S+ people are safe, seen, and accepted for who we truly are, without exception. We are here together, and we will move forward. We’ve got this. We’ve got us.”
