Self-Defense Series Of Training Classes
.
Castro Community On Patrol (CCOP) in association with our safety partner Community Patrol Service (CPS) offers a series of self-defense training classes which take students progressively through the concepts, strategies, and techniques of general self-defense.
Our very popular 3.5 hours Beginners Self-Defense class is the starting point and the most commonly attended. The class is a very low impact presentation of some very basic, but extremely useful and valuable self-defense concepts taught by martial arts Grand Master, Ken Craig. We have provided this same class on many occasions in the past to packed classes and rave reviews.
The class teaches a thought-process of graduated risk assessment and threat response and is suitable for anyone of 18 years or older. There will be periods of standing and moving, as well as working with other people as part of the practical class exercises. We can make necessary accommodations for special needs, but please let us know of any special needs well before the class date.
The class focuses on RECOGNIZING increasing threats, AVOIDING conflicts when possible, DE-ESCALATING conflict situations when viable, and RESPONDING in a “last resort” scenario provides some simple and easy to remember defensive techniques that any able bodied adult should be able to utilize effectively. The blended lecture and performance structure allows attendees to build hierarchically in a simple step by step manner to help aid retention of the information and concepts.
Attendees will work together in pairs at times, and with class instructors at times as they work through the practical defensive techniques and concepts.
