PINK SATURDAY is the annual street celebration that takes place in the Castro every June on the evening before the SF Pride Parade.  This year it will take place on Saturday June 29, and it’s expected to attract upwards of 50k attendees plus to the neighborhood.

With so many people out to have a good time, CCOP has worked alongside the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the San Francisco Police Department for more than five years to help keep everyone safe.  We’re partnering again this year and will be fielding CCOP Safety Teams to monitor the event and provide assistance to attendees, visitors and residents alike.  In order to make our Safety Teams more effective though, we are looking for some quality community volunteers who would like to donate five hours of their free time by joining our Safety Crew.

Volunteers will receive training prior to “hitting the streets” at our event HQ, located at Eureka Valley Recreation Center, 100 Collingwood Street.  Once you complete training you’ll be assigned on four to six person safety teams with one or two CCOP Patrollers leading each team.  Your team will be assigned to a particular location and you’ll walk the area, chatting with attendees, helping those in need, providing directions for “lost souls” and so on.  All teams will be in two way radio contact with our CCOP HQ in case some more professional assistance is needed for a medical or safety situation, and SFPD and SFFD EMT’s will be on scene to assist when needed.

Proceeds from the event gate are distributed by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to well deserving local non-profit groups, so the donation of your time will not only help the event run smoothly, but it will also put some much needed funding into the coffers of some needy organizations.  What more could you ask for?

If you would like to register as a Pink Saturday Safety Crew volunteer:

  1. You must be 18 years of age or older
  2. You must be able to volunteer from 6:00pm through 11:00pm or slightly after on 6/29/13
