You’re walking home from the bar about 1:30 in the morning on a weekend.  You turn onto your street, it’s dark, and someone approaches you.  Immediately, you feel uncomfortable and it doesn’t take long to realize that individual is up to no good.

How would you respond to this situation?

It’s not the most pleasant thing to think about, but the reality is that people in our community do, from time-to-time, get attacked for a variety of reasons.  To that end, CCOP, along with our partners with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and Community Patrol USA are happy to provide free self-defense training!  Our most recent class took place this Saturday, June 22nd, at Eureka Valley Recreation Center and was lead by DPtlr. Ken Craig, wearing his Community Patrol USA hat.

The class attendees learned strategies to help avoid getting in potentially dangerous situations and how to deescalate a dangerous situation without getting physical.  We also showed them some simple techniques to escape an attacker should their efforts to avoid physical confrontation fail.

Most importantly, we all had a lot of fun!

We try to conduct these classes regularly, and of course they’re always free to attend!  If you have any questions about self-defense or CCOP in general, please don’t hesitate to send an email over to info@castropatrol.org.

Need a better idea of what went on in the class today?  Naturally we took lots of pics.  Here are a few:
