San Francisco – District Attorney George Gascón announced today the availability of Neighborhood Justice Fund grants to community-based organizations for projects that will enhance neighborhood safety, livability and cohesion. The grants are a result of restitution funds collected from Neighborhood Court directives and held by the District Attorney’s Office solely for the Neighborhood Justice Fund annual grant program.
“This grant cycle, we are prioritizing projects with an emphasis on pedestrian safety, security improvements and summer community mobilization and empowerment activities,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “We encourage community organizations to be creative in ways to foster public safety in our neighborhoods.”
The 2014 Neighborhood Justice Fund is open to all non-profit 501 (c)(3) community organizations. Applications must be compliant City Vendors prior to submitting proposals to be eligible for funds. Organizations may submit one application for a maximum amount of $3,000 and there will be no more than 11 grants awarded in this funding cycle.
Last grant cycle, projects funded included a security gate, a community garden, and public safety projects benefiting youth, the elderly, and the LGBT community. This year’s priority areas of pedestrian safety, security improvements and summer community activities will further enhance public safety in San Francisco’s neighborhoods.
To be considered for a Neighborhood Justice Fund grant, projects must be located in San Francisco, be a discrete project entirely funded by the grant or a distinct project component entirely funded by this grant, provide a time bound schedule of when activities will occur, and be within the demonstrated capacity of the organization.
Grants awarded during 2014 disbursement are for projects to be completed between June 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014. Proposals for 2014 projects must be submitted by 5:00pm Monday, April 14, 2014.
