CCOP will join members of the San Francisco Police Department and the department Pride Alliance officers at Martuni’s piano lounge on Market Street by Valencia Street on Wednesday June 5, 2013 to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund named after fallen SFPD Officer Jon Clifton Cook, a gay officer who was killed in a traffic collision on June 12, 2012 when responding to back up a fellow officer.
The annual fundraiser in memory of Officer Cook will begin at 5pm and is expected to continue through 9pm. Funds raised are used to assist LGBT individuals who are interested in a law enforcement career. Inspector Pam Hofsass of the cold case unit will provide some entertainment by singing and playing piano, and who knows how many other “crooners” there may be among the supporters who will be in attendance. If you can spare a couple of hours, please do drop by and give a little to a very worthy cause.
Officer Cook lost his life doing what he loved. Riding in a marked SFPD unit and rushing to back up a fellow officer who was conducting a felony arrest, the unit collided with another SFPD unit making its way to the same arrest at 17th Street and Dolores Street around 22:30 hours. Three other officers were seriously injured in the collision.
